ATTENDANCE & PARTICIPATION

At Pulse, every student takes part in our concert — and we truly believe it’s one of the most special and important parts of their performing arts journey.

For our Little Groovers, stepping onto the stage is more than just a cute moment — it’s a powerful and meaningful experience that helps build confidence, pride, and a strong sense of achievement from the earliest years. We know that performance is a vital part of the learning process. It encourages bravery, fosters teamwork, and helps children learn how to express themselves in front of others — all within a supportive and joyful environment.

After years of teaching little ones and watching them grow, we’ve seen firsthand the impact that early performance opportunities can have. This year, three of our Prep students — who began dancing with us between the ages of 18 months and two years — performed solos at the Eisteddfod for the very first time. Their confidence on stage was incredible to witness, but what was even more remarkable was their calmness, joy, and excitement — traits that stem from years of concert participation where nerves were never something they had to “unlearn.”

Again and again, we’ve heard stories from families and school teachers who tell us how confidently these students present in front of their classes — not just on stage, but in the classroom, at parade, and in everyday life.

We deeply believe that confidence is something built over time — and these early steps on stage are some of the most powerful ones they’ll take. We encourage every family to join us in celebrating and supporting these young performers as they take their first shining steps towards a confident, creative future.

REHEARSAL DAY

24th - 27th of November

At Pulse, we know that big performances start with little steps — and for our Lil Groovers, that means lots of gentle, consistent practice.

Throughout all of Term 4, our Lil Groovers spend time in class learning their concert routine in a way that’s fun, age-appropriate, and full of encouragement. But the final rehearsal is an especially important milestone — it’s when they get to wear their costumes and experience a special “mini performance” that helps them understand what the real concert will feel like.

During this week, we turn their class into a concert-style practice session — complete with lining up, performing in order, and learning what it feels like to dance in costume. It’s one of the best ways to help your child feel comfortable, confident, and ready for their big moment on stage.

We highly recommend prioritising attendance this week to give your child the best possible experience. We’ll also provide you with extra resources and guidance on the day to help you feel prepared for the concert too — including what to pack, how the day will run, and what to expect backstage.

If you usually drop your child and go we would ask that you stick around and help change your little one into their costume on this day!

CONCERT DAY PICK UP/DROP OFF

This year is extra exciting — for the first time ever, our Lil Groovers will be backstage with us during their very own concert!

Because we’re holding a preschool-only concert, we’ve been able to design a backstage experience especially for little ones — with engaging preschool-friendly activities, a calm and cosy environment, children’s entertainers, and plenty of fun to keep them happy and occupied while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

Having our Lil Groovers backstage with us also helps ensure the concert runs smoothly and on time, as it allows us to get them concert-ready in a stress-free, playful environment.

DROP OFF

We kindly ask that you drop your child off at 10:15-10:30am

Please stick as closely as possible to this time.

If you arrive too early, we won’t be able to provide supervision.

If you arrive too late, it may delay the start of the show.

Closer to the concert date, we’ll let you know which Show Group your child is in and who their Show Group Leader will be. Each group will be small, supervised by a dedicated staff member, and kept happily entertained with quiet games, stories, colouring, music, and more while they wait for their time to shine. They’ll then be escorted to our specially set up backstage Chill Out Zone (that’s our cosy, calm space for little performers) and the dressing area where final touches will be made before going on stage.

PICK UP

At the end of the concert, we’ll celebrate your Lil Groovers with a presentation and once this wraps up, we’ll guide all Lil Groovers back to the backstage area with their Show Group Leader. There, we’ll help them gather their belongings and prepare for collection. You’ll meet them at a designated pick-up point in the hall, where you’ll sign them out with their Show Group Leader.

We’ll provide full details about the sign-in and sign-out process closer to the event to ensure everything runs safely and smoothly.

A Note on Safety and Separation

Only authorised staff members are permitted in the backstage area at any time for child safety. If your little one is experiencing separation anxiety or needs a bit of extra comfort, a team member will come and find you right away so you can help reassure them. But rest assured — our experienced and caring team will be there to support them every step of the way.

WHAT TO WEAR

Lil Groovers should arrive to the venue prepared for their performance with the following attire:

Bodystocking or Boy Leg Shorts provided in your "concert undergarments kit"
2025 Adventure Land Concert Tee Shirt and easy to dress shorts with slip on shoes or sneakers. (ensure all items are named)

PACKING CHECKLIST

Please pack students items in a clearly labelled bag with all items also labelled.

- Tap shoes in a labelled zip lock bag - tap class

- Sneakers in a labelled zip lock bag - hip hop, ninjas, cheer (sneakers can be any colour you already have, but we would prefer velcro or no laces if possible)

- Full water bottle

- A comfort toy if you think it may help them settle

- A container with a few snacks. Please ensure these snack are not messy to eat and won't stain costumes

COSTUMES, HAIR & MAKEUP

COSTUME HIRE POLICY

Costumes are HIRED from the studio and various other hire companies and MUST be returned.

All hired costumes will be taken to the venue on the concert day by the team.
If you, for any reason collect your child during the show while they are still in costume it must be returned same day to avoid any extra fees.

UNDERGARMENTS

All undergarments, including stockings and socks are included in the Undergarment Kit that is charged along with your performer fee.

This year, for both child safety and performer comfort, we have introduced a modesty undergarments policy for all students in costumes of all ages. This ensures that every child remains covered at all times when changing costumes at the theatre.

Girls will be provided with a flesh-toned body stocking (a thin, skin-coloured leotard).

Boys will be provided with skin-coloured boy-leg shorts as their modesty undergarment.
- This will be sent home on rehearsal day with their concert t-shirt.

- Students must arrive at the theatre already wearing their body stocking/boy shorts under their clothes.

- This means they will never need to be fully undressed when changing costumes.

Preschool students will not be required to wear stockings this year and will instead, a pair of socks will be included with their costume hire.

HAIR STYLING

Girls are to have two high pigtails with a middle part. The pigtails can either be styled into space buns, plaited or bubble braided or kept loose if length allows! We will provide hair accessories with their costume hire.

Boys are to have Neat and tidy hair. Ideally, use gel or styling product to secure.

MAKEUP

Makeup is entirely optional for all preschool aged performers!

If you wish to use makeup for your lil groover we suggest:

-Some gentle blush or sparkles for cheeks

- a pink lip stain (no smudgey lipstick please!)

- body shimmer for shoulders and arms or hair glitter secured with hair spray is also fun!

PRESENTATIONS

Another SUPER exciting part of our first ever preschool only show is the opportunity to do a special Lil Groovers red carpet moment to celebrate each student with their own special moment!

They will also receive their recognition award in this time!

We wil also do a presentation for Lil Groovers in Kindy who are "graduating" out of the lil groovers program and will be joining our Big Schoolers in 2026! If this is your child, please let us know so we can make sure they are included!

PARENT/FRIEND VOLUNTEER

These shows take a village to put together and there are so many extra jobs that our small team isn't able to manage alone so we will be putting a call out to parents and community members to help us with the following roles:

- Canteen Attendants

- Ticket Scanners

-Setting Up Chairs
-Packdown helpers

If you are wanting to help out or have a high school student looking for volunteer work experience please let us know! We are so grateful for the extra help!!
